On October 2, 2020, TAAAP will be presenting an online workshop on the identity development of ace and aro people at the Careers in Sexuality Conference. Our workshop will be from 2:30-3:30 Eastern Time. It is directed towards educators and therapists, but will have useful information for anyone who wants to learn more about aromanticism and asexuality. The home page for the conference is here, and you can reserve tickets here.
The workshop is titled Cards and Quivers: Identity Development of Asexual and Aromantic People. The description is:
Asexual and aromantic identities are uncommonly known and frequently misunderstood, which makes personally navigating them an arduous task. By using a modified version of the Asexual Identity Development model (proposed by Robbins et al.), our panel of five asexual- and aromantic-spectrum people will take participants through a roadmap of how these identities can be discovered, developed, and experienced by individuals. While it is not the end-all, be-all of identity development, this model can prove a useful tool to health professionals and allies looking to assist their ace and aro clients through discovering and accepting their identities. This is, therefore, not a 101 lecture on the basics of ace and aro identities, although we will provide resources beforehand so that everyone can have a solid foundation upon which this panel will build. This panel experience will include discussions centering personal experiences, as well as several interactive activities. Our goal is for participants to walk away feeling comfortable both with aromantic and asexual identities and with helping potential clients through their identity development process.
