Pride 2021
Happy Pride 2021! This month, in honor of Pride 2021, TAAAP will be hosting two long weekends of discussion, with six different topics.
The overarching topic for the full month is Pride, and we welcome anyone to discuss how they feel or express Pride, and how they feel connected to their ace or aro identity. In addition, everyone is welcome to discuss any topic below on any of the days, so if you are limited to coming on specific days, you can still engage on any of the topics!
The Chats will be open each day from 10 am Eastern through 1:00 am Eastern Daylight Time. (That’s 2 PM GMT through 5 AM GMT.) We will schedule the voice chats when people are available and want to in the server.
Coming Out
Friday, June 18
On Friday, June 18, the theme will be Coming Out. Participants are welcome to discuss any of their own experiences of coming out, ask for advice, share their joys or fears connected to the process, compare coming out as aro or ace with coming out as other identities, and anything else that they want to talk about.
Dating and Partnering/What Is Romance
Saturday, June 19
On Saturday, June 19, the focus is on partnered relationships and romance – specifically, discussing both Dating and Partnering as well as What Is Romance. Participants can talk about their experiences, hopes, or potential futures connected to dating and partnering. They can also discuss what romance or romantic attraction means to them, and share how they feel about romance as a concept or structure.
Media Representation
Sunday, June 20
On Sunday, June 20, the theme will be Media Representation. Participants can share how they feel about the aspec representation they’ve seen, discuss headcanons or theories about other characters, and how they experience interacting with media in general in light of their orientation(s). Everyone is also more than welcome to share any original work they have created that includes ace or aro representation.
Building and Finding Communities
Friday, June 25
On Friday, June 25, the theme will be Building and Finding Communities. Pride is usually associated with connecting to others with the same or similar identities, and we encourage people to discuss how to find aro or ace communities, in-person or online, as well as how to build them if they do not already exist.
Outreach and Inclusion
Saturday, June 26
On Saturday, June 26, the theme will be Outreach and Inclusion. This means discussing both ways to integrate into larger queer communities as well as how to educate society about aspec identities. Participants can share their experiences with outreach and inclusion, strategies that can work, and hopes for the future.
Intercommunity Issues
Sunday, June 27
On Sunday, June 27, the theme will be Intercommunity Issues. Participants can talk about any issues they have faced or seen within ace or aro communities, how those communities interact with each other, or how we can better support one another.
People are welcome to discuss any of their experiences, but are expected to follow the guidelines, especially around inclusion and respect. Many of us may have experienced exclusionism before, and we are open to discussions of those experiences. However, we will not tolerate the expression or support of exclusionism of others in the chats.
