SexPosCon Poster: Others Thinking We Need to Get Laid

The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project presented three posters at the 2022 Sex Positivity Conference. The theme was “Sex Positivity is Humanizing”, and we discussed specific aromantic and asexual perspectives on sex positivity.

One poster was Others Believing We Need To Get Laid: An Asexual Perspective on Sex Positivity, developed by Emily Karp, Kade, and Maximus. The abstract for the poster is:

“An Asexual Perspective on Sex Positivity” explores some of the ways in which the sex positivity movement generally overlooks the experiences of those who are asexual, celibate, have low libido, or in general have low interest in sex. Sex positive activists can make the mistake of placing high desire for sex and large quantities of sex on a pedestal – while this is liberating for some people, this alienates others who are not interested in or are outright repulsed by sex. This presentation aims to explore how to better understand and advocate for a population that is often pathologized, shamed, pitied, and treated as unnatural.
