Supporting International Sex Workers’ Day (June 2)

TAAAP unequivocally supports full decriminalisation of sex work – not to be confused or conflated with legalisation models or with the Nordic model of criminalising clients – and self-determination & labour rights for sex workers.

You might ask why this is relevant to us and our goals as an aspec advocacy organisation. Here are three reasons.

MBLGTACC 2023 – Watching the Invisible: Aromanticism and Asexuality in Media

Watching the Invisible was presented by TAAAP advocates at MBLGTACC in 2023, a conference dedicated to educating the Midwestern collegiate audience on queer history, activism, and identity. Aromanticism and asexuality are rarely depicted in popular media, and when they are that representation tends to be limited or to misunderstand our identities. Our presentation discussed why representing aro and ace identities is important, what we’ve seen thus far, and what we want to see in the future. We also discussed the ways in which media affirms, disparages, or erases our identities.

Ace Week 2022: Sex-Repulsed and Averse Aces Part I

TAAAP has written about sex-favorable aces before, but a huge proportion of the ace community is sex-repulsed or averse – over 40% according to the 2019 Ace Community Survey. They face numerous burdens, as they have to contend with sex and sexuality in the world around them. They also must reckon with their own community – many well-meaning aces and allies over-emphasize the existence of sex-favorable aces wile neglecting to mention sex-repulsed and -averse aces at all.

Being sex-repulsed or -avers is extremely individualized, but for a primer on how it can manifest, check out our guide here.

Thank you to all our contributors!

Latin American Aspecs

Aspec communities are often dominated by white people and people from the US and Europe, so this article focuses on the experiences and perspectives of ace and aro people from Latin America or with Latin American heritage. We are posting it on September 30 to celebrate the several Central and South American countries that won independence in September (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile). Thank you to all who volunteered their time and shared their experiences.
