June 2021 TAAAP Pride Chats

Pride 2021

Happy Pride 2021! This month, in honor of Pride 2021, TAAAP will be hosting two long weekends of discussion, with six different topics.

The overarching topic for the full month is Pride, and we welcome anyone to discuss how they feel or express Pride, and how they feel connected to their ace or aro identity. In addition, everyone is welcome to discuss any topic below on any of the days, so if you are limited to coming on specific days, you can still engage on any of the topics!

The Chats will be open each day from 10 am Eastern through 1:00 am Eastern Daylight Time. (That’s 2 PM GMT through 5 AM GMT.) We will schedule the voice chats when people are available and want to in the server.

May ’21 TAAAP Pride Chats – Leisure

As many of us start being able to engage in more in-person activities safely, this month focuses on the kinds of and ways that we enjoy leisure activities, and how being aspec might impact those activities. This can be anything from the entertainment we consume, to the people we spend free time with, to the decisions on when to go out vs. stay in, to the activities one might do alone that are expected to be done with a partner of some kind.

April ’21 TAAAP Pride Chats – All Attractions

The April 2021 TAAAP Pride Chat will be focused on any & all attractions, how they are felt, defined, and expressed. While aromantic and asexual people often focus on their romantic or sexual attractions, or lack thereof, this theme is open to discussion of all of the different forms of attraction – feel free to bring your own!

The March 2021 TAAAP Pride Chat will focus on platonic attraction and its spectrum, including aplatonicism and its inclusion in the aro and ace communities. Some members of the ace and aro communities find the experience, or non-experience, of platonic attraction to be a defining part of their identities.

February ’21 TAAAP Pride Chats – ASAW and Amatonormativity

This February, we’ll have two Pride Chats – one focusing on Aromantic-Spectrum Awareness Week on February 21-22, and another on amatonormativity, relationship anarchy, and poly-a relationships on February 27-28. As usual, anyone can come to these chats; they are not limited by identity. We will be open from 9:00 am to 11:59 pm Eastern each day we host the chat.

Creating Change 2021

TAAAP is proud to present several sessions at the Creating Change conference for the fourth year in a row, with Aces and Aros and the Aromantic-spectrum Union for Recognition, Education, and Advocacy, including a workshop, caucus, and the first-ever Day-Long Institute! This year, because it will be entirely virtual, nobody has to travel at all to join us. Also, the registration fees this year have been reduced to $50, or pay what you can. We plan to upload session materials and transcripts, though only of the informational parts and not of any personal audience information, for many of these sessions after the conference.

This past year, 2020, has been a difficult year for many of us for many different reasons. The January TAAAP Pride Chat will look to the future to think about hopes and resolutions for 2021. These can be for aro and ace communities at large, or personal. Let’s start out the year thinking positive!

December TAAAP Pride Chats – Models of Attraction and Orientation

The December TAAAP Pride Chat will focus on models of attraction and orientation, including the SAM (Split-Attraction Model), as well as understandings and models of orientation that do not center attraction, and any other potential ways of understanding attraction and orientation. We at TAAAP support any person using any kind of model, or no model at all, to identify their attraction or orientation. We also will require that all participants in the conversation respect others’ personal choices and feelings surrounding any particular attraction and orientation model or lack thereof, including people who object to there being a binary of SAM and non-SAM. This discussion will explore why people use the SAM, use something else entirely, or use none.

The November TAAAP Pride Chat will focus on writing. We were inspired by both the October activism conversation, which discussed the need for more writing on aspec identities and experiences, and by NaNoWriMo (https://nanowrimo.org/). This includes fiction and nonfiction, writing from participants and writing we admire, explicit and implicit aspec representation.
